Who We Are
About HANDS International
Our Mission & Vision
Health and Development Services International, Inc. (“HANDS International”) is a faith-based, nonprofit founded in 2007 and incorporated to mobilize skilled volunteers in short-term medical and development missions worldwide.
Launched in response to the 2004 Asian tsunami and global health inequities, HANDS was organized by a coalition of healthcare professionals and church leaders. Its first Executive Director (appointed January 30, 2008) set the tone: “In brokenness, healing hands; in conflict, reconciling grace.”
Today HANDS is overseen by a board of volunteer servant-leaders and an executive team of medical, logistical, and development specialists. Our mission is to channel Christian compassion into sustainable health-and-development projects, delivering care to the underserved and empowering communities for long-term well-being.
Ethos & Guiding Principles
Volunteerism without Borders
Skilled professionals serve without pay, crossing boundaries to provide care.
Cultural Sensitivity
Programs adapted to local customs and needs, respecting diversity.
Integrated Development
Blending emergency relief, clinical outreach, education, and family-strengthening initiatives.
Data-Driven Prioritization
Identifying vulnerable populations through global/local networks and scientific assessment.
