Job Summary
The MRI Radiographer is a highly trained diagnostic imaging professional responsible for the safe, accurate, and high-quality performance of Magnetic Resonance Imaging examinations. The role requires advanced knowledge of MRI safety, patient screening, contrast administration support, and protocol optimization to ensure diagnostic excellence.
The MRI Radiographer provides direct patient care before, during, and after MRI examinations, ensures strict adherence to MRI safety standards, and operates within a multidisciplinary hospital environment with professionalism, precision, and accountability.
Key Responsibilites
Clinical MRI Operations
- To perform high-quality MRI examinations in accordance with approved MRI protocols, ensuring optimal image quality for a wide range of clinical indications.
- To select and apply appropriate MRI protocols, and parameters based on patient anatomy, clinical history, and referring physician requirements.
- To prepare patients for MRI examinations, including explanation of procedures, positioning, comfort optimization, and anxiety management.
- To assist the Radiologist during MRI procedures requiring contrast administration or advanced imaging techniques.
- To monitor patients throughout the MRI examination and respond appropriately to patient distress, claustrophobia, or adverse events.
- To ensure post-procedure patient safety, including observation following contrast-enhanced studies where applicable.
MRI Safety and Compliance
- To strictly enforce MRI safety standards, including comprehensive patient and staff screening for MRI contraindications and ferromagnetic risks.
- To ensure compliance with MRI Zone safety protocols (Zones I–IV) and control access to restricted MRI areas.
- To identify, manage, and report MRI safety incidents, near misses, or hazards in accordance with hospital policy.
- To ensure all MRI-compatible equipment and accessories are used appropriately to prevent injury or equipment damage.
Documentation and Information Systems
- To verify that all patient documentation, referrals, consent forms, and clinical histories are complete and accurate prior to MRI examinations.
- To enter, update, and maintain accurate patient and examination data on the Hospital’s EMR.
- To ensure proper labeling, archiving, and transmission of MRI images and reports in accordance with departmental standards.
Equipment and Quality Assurance
- To operate MRI equipment correctly and responsibly to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- To conduct routine MRI equipment checks and report equipment malfunctions promptly to the Supervisor and Facilities Manager.
- To support quality assurance activities, including image quality review and protocol optimization initiatives.
- To participate in scheduled preventive maintenance and system performance monitoring activities.
Departmental Operations and Administration
- To maintain a clean, organized, and professional MRI environment at all times.
- To support scheduling efficiency and workflow coordination within the MRI unit.
- To assist with MRI-related inventory control and supply requests as required.
- To participate in on-call MRI services where applicable, in accordance with departmental coverage requirements.
Professional Conduct and Development
- To maintain a high standard of professional conduct, patient confidentiality, and ethical practice.
- To engage in continuing professional development to remain current with advances in MRI technology, protocols, and safety standards.
- To collaborate effectively with Radiologists, nurses, referring clinicians, and administrative staff to support integrated patient care.
- To perform any other MRI-related duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Qualifications
- High level of professionalism and good conceptual skills
- Good interpersonal skills in relation to Co-workers, Supervisors and Administrators
- Computer literate
- Certification in Radiological Science
- Registration with the Radiographer’s Board of Trinidad and Tobago
- At least 5 years work experience in an X-Ray Department
